"Snake skin?! Yuck!" - Me, about three months ago.
I know, I know, at first it seems scary. I thought the same thing. At first glance, I didn't like it. I didn't get it. I didn't think it was cute or chic. Then I started seeing more pictures of regular girls with a snakeskin accessory and thought, "Okay, that looks super cute." Then I saw more girls in full-on snakeskin dresses or leggings or blazers and here I am, buying ALL THE SNAKESKIN.
I understand. It's a BOLD print. My issue at first was that I didn't think I could pull it off. If I still lived in New York, maybe. But what would people in my small Midwest town think if I'm walking around wearing a full snakeskin blazer? Then I thought of my new year's resolution (don't give a cr*p about what other people think) and went and bought a snakeskin belt. And I recently bought a snakeskin maxi skirt and it is giving me LIFE.
You CAN pull it off. I cannot stress that enough. Who made the rules about what people can wear and what they can't? It's one of my biggest pet peeves: society making women think that they can't wear something because it's too 'young' or it's 'inappropriate' or too 'flashy'. Wear whatever the hell you want to wear! If it makes you feel good, WEAR THE DANG THING. That's my personal mantra about snakeskin. And please, if you take one thing away from my blog posts, let it be this:
You can wear it. You can pull it off. And you will look fantastic.
I linked above some of my favorite affordable snakeskin finds if you're willing to take the leap and try it out. I was so hesitant at first and now I can't get enough of this print. I love some of the bold dresses and skirts I linked for the girl who really wants to jump in and go for it, but I also linked a bunch of smaller accessories if you want to start small and see how you like it.
If you don't take for my word for it, take it from the girl in this picture below, killing it and feeling herself in snakeskin! (Spoiler alert: It's me!)
